Warning to ECOWAS Commission and African Union over Republic of Niger
West Africa is endowed with natural, mineral and human resources yet one of the poorest regions in Africa 🌍 in terms of human capital development, access to social amenities like water, roads, schools, hospitals, electricity, quality education and healthcare, internet and more.
I have travelled around West Africa on road 🛣️ and it is very pathetic to see how our young people are suffering in our cities, towns and villages.
Many of our university graduates are jobless and have to "japa" to Europe and America for greener pastures... The remaining suffer the harsh conditions of poverty, lacking education, good healthcare, potable water and more especially hunger yet our 75 and 80-year old politicians will be cruising in private jets, driving latest land cruisers and enjoying the proceeds of loans borrowed from IMF, World Bank and others as well as natural resources exported out of our countries. The Youths are watching you...
To me, it is a shame to be called "His Excellency" when you have not done anything excellent in your country and for the people you are leading in Africa 🌍. For over 50 years of independence of many West Africa states, we are yet to boast of producing toothpicks yet we export timber out of Africa everyday. The most painful thing is seeing a presidential convoy of over 100 vehicles fueled with tax payers money moving aimlessly on bad roads without any direction of lifting the people out of poverty.
Posterity is judging all of you my Dear African Politicians - Your cup of corruption under quasi-democracy in conjunction with your colonial masters is overflowing now...

ECOWAS and AU, LEAVE Niger alone! In as much as I don't support the coup d'etat, listen to the voices of the majority of the Niger people. Rather than launching a military attack on them which will kill more civilians, give them $10billion to build their economy so as to lift Nigeriens out of poverty. Go into dialogue with them on a roadmap into prosperity. Begin to calculate the effects of refugees from Niger moving into Nigeria, Benin, Chad and others.
How do you answer this question, "The world's seventh biggest producer of uranium is also the second most poorest country in the world?
It is time for these West Africa countries to liberate themselves from their colonial master and forge ahead into prosperity - Mali did it, Guinea did it, Burkina Faso did it, now Niger has done it. Others will follow soon because when it started in North Africa 🌍, West Africa was laughing...
Follow dialogue instead of military force else you will end up sanctioning more countries and the regional bloc will fade away.
In other news, the people of Niger are happy about the coup d'etat so why is ECOWAS and AU angry...
UNTIL we begin to build a prosperous and united Africa 🌍 for the benefit of all Africans, this is what we will continue to see...
Yours Pan-Africanist,
John Kofi Annan
